Their passive perk of a guaranteed [[Bonus Gun Mod]] activation and starting [[Turret]] support this this. Rye also does not feature any direct downsides. They are the second Character to be unlocked, given after beating [[Summer]]. == Upside == Rye features two upsides; their additional [[Bonus Gun Mod]] chance and their starting [[Turret]]. === Mechanic === Rye's primary upside can be found in their custom [[Items|Item]], known as [[Mechanic]]. This provides Rye with an additional 100% [[Bonus Gun Mod]] chance. This can be utilized to reliably gain stronger [[Weapons]] throughout a run. This can be especially useful when the player manages to purchase a higher rarity Weapon, as players will potentially have a very strong weapon for a lower price than other characters. Likewise, players can better choose which Weapons they wish to use when clearing [[Camps]] in the various [[Biomes]], as lower rarity [[Weapons]] will also be stronger. As a whole, Rye will allow players a more offensive playstyle, as the extra mods will make exploring [[Biomes]] and defending the farm more efficient.. === Starting Turret === Rye's other perk is always beginning with a free [[Turret]] at the start of each run. This can assist with defending [[Crops]] during the nightly attacks on the [[Farm]]. In fact, it is possible that during the first few nights, especially on earlier [[Years]], the Turret will be able to completely defend the Farm all on its own. This can allot players more chances during the first [[Spring]] nights to further explore the various [[Biomes]] instead of focusing on defending their Crops. This free Turret also pairs well with various Turret upgrades, including but not limited to [[Turret Growth Aura]] and [[Sprinkler Head]]. This is especially true of the player manages to acquire one or two of these upgrades from the [[Time Capsule]] or through any means immediately at the start of the player's run. == History == *Rye used to have a different perk, giving 50% [[Gun Repair]] instead of 100% [[Bonus Gun Mod]]. This was changed along with the former Weapon System in [[Version History|Patch 1.5.0f1]], as [[Weapons]] no longer break at the end of each day. **Prior to [[Version History|Patch 1.1.12]], this [[Gun Repair]] chance was 25%. ***Even before that, Rye's perk always made [[Weapons]] last one extra day from when they were purchased. == Trivia == *Rye is the sole [[Characters|Character]] with the highest possible [[Bonus Gun Mod]] chance possible, beginning at his base 100% but potentially up to 115% with all related [[Home Improvements]] and 200 [[Cats|Yorkie Cats]] with the Yorkie Cat plushie recovered.
