Fertilizer is a common pickup and game mechanic in Atomicrops.

General Description

Fertilizer is a pickup that can be used to fertilize Crops. Fertilizing Crops makes them more valuable to sell, and also allows for the formation of Megacrops. It can be found within various locations, including killing Enemies, the Giant Slug Camp, by cutting Weeds, clearing Debris, rarely given by Farm Animals and some Spouses, and given from the Time Capsule through certain Home Improvements. Fertilizer will despawn when left on the ground for too long, so therefore the player must pick it up quickly.

Fertilization Rates

Different Crops require different amounts of Fertilizer in order to be fully fertilized and reaching their greater sell value. Note that, with the exception of Sunflowers, Fertilizer does not increase the value of the given Crop for each piece of Fertilizer given. Instead, it increases the chance that the given Crop will be fertilized upon harvest. If the maximum amount of Fertilizer is given the chance is guaranteed. Different Crops have different rates of fertilization in order to merge into a Megacrop and to be fully fertilized. This can be seen in the table below. Fruit Trees are unique due to how upon being fully fertilized they will remain that way for the remainder of the run. This makes Fruit Trees an extremely worthwhile Fertilizer investment.

*Maximum Fertilizer Requirement for Megacrops does not include the amount of Fertilizer required for the merging to create a Megacrop. That is counted separately in the column next to it.

**Sunflowers merge into a Megacrop automatically when placed properly, and will consume 50 Fertilizer at maximum, immediately rewarding 3 Cashews for regular Sunflowers and 30 Cashews for Mega Sunflowers per Fertilizer used. If any of the Sunflowers were given Fertilizer before they merged, then the Mega Sunflower will be partially fertilized upon creation. The Fertilizer amount will be averaged between the four Sunflowers; for instance, if the player gives one of the four Sunflowers 30 Fertilizer, and don't give any to the other three, then that will average to 7 Fertilizer, and the Mega Sunflower will then only accept 43 Fertilizer. This cuts into the profit potential of the crop and weakens the power of being able to quickly produce huge amounts of Cashews with it, as well as burning through a larger amount of the player's Fertilizer stock; therefore, when planning to merge Sunflowers, it is crucial to not give any Fertilizer to the Sunflowers before they merge.
